Ipsy Bag – February 2013

You all know how much I love my Ipsy! For only $10, I get a variety of great products, and best of all…it is the only monthly box that I am subscribed to, that included guaranteed cosmetics. Each month, I look forward to this bag. While I love my Ipsy bag and always will love my Ipsy bag, I cannot say that I was flipping out that much this month! It certainly wasn’t bad…at all! A mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadows and more…its great! I just mean that I didn’t enjoy the products themselves…they were just okay.

See…it has a great selection, but let me explain why this month was just average for me. First of all, the Coastal Scents Palette Sample. I have nothing against Coastal Scents…great products for great prices! However, Ipsy already included a shadow sample a few bags ago. Yes…they provided different shades, but I would have rather tried something new.
Secondly, when I saw the Pixi product, I was really excited because I have liked Pixi from past experiences. However, I didn’t find that this was a product that helped my makeup application. When I use the Benefit Porefessional (my favorite!), I instantly notice a difference in the way I apply my foundation. This product was just okay. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best. It probably compared to other products that I already have in my collection. I will keep it and use it, I have no problem doing that…but overall, was just OKAY.
Same issue with the POP mascara. If I recall…I have tried POP products in the past, but this mascara didn’t blow me away. Like Pixi…good product, but nothing extraordinary. Yes…I will keep it and use it, but its certainly not my “go-to” mascara, or even comparable.
The MicaBeauty Gel Eyeliner was exciting to me! I love trying new eyeliners and this one was great! It is extremely pigmented and has an intense black color payoff! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOOOVE IT!!! I have to admit, I think I like it better than my MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack!
The Lash Cards are always good to have. I actually selected them in my January Beauty Army Kit. Obviously, Ipsy could not have known that, but it is one of those products that you could never have enough of. I have yet to try these out, as I personally find it a bit awkward to use, but perhaps I will use them while I am applying someone else’s makeup. It may be especially useful for bridal makeup. Come to think of it…this may certainly come in handy!
So there…sorry for the semi-negativity and “blahness”. I know, I am usually kind of chipper and positive, but again, honesty is important to me. I think that this is one of those bags that is going to be a hit or miss for most people. Some people may fall in love with the Pixi Flawless & Poreless and think that the POP Mascara is the best thing going. Everyone is different, but those products just aren’t for me. Even though this was a semi-negative review, it does not mean that I am stopping with my bag. I would never do such a thing! This is an overall great bag and no matter what, I will always look forward to receiving it each month!

  1. I felt the same way with this bag. It was just okay… I’m really excited to see what we get this month!

  2. Lovely review.

I’ve always liked the look of these ipsy ‘glam bags’. I really like that it’s all makeup products in the bag because skincare products are harder to keep changing around and trying new ones all the time isn’t always practical. I just found out that ipsy is co-founded by Michelle Phan. Her YouTube videos are amazing and as a beauty ‘guru’, she probably has a good idea about what makeup products are at least worth trying.

I wish we had ipsy here in the UK as I think that it is something I would definitely subscribe too. $10 a month and free shipping seems like a bargain to me. Thanks and have a lovely weekend too! x
