I had the absolute pleasure of teaming up with another beauty blogger and we collaborated on swapping guest posts for each others websites. The beautiful and sweet Casey from Beauty101Blog contacted me and suggested this and I immediately said yes! Casey has been wonderful to work with and I look forward to teaming up with her in the future! Be sure to go check out her blog and enjoy her review on NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil!
Do you ever go through phases? You know, the times where you’ll be SUPER into something specific and just can’t stop buying whatever it is? That’s how I am with lipsticks right now. I mean... I CAN’T STOP BUYING THEM.
My lipstick phase has, unfortunately (for my wallet), started to venture out to lipgloss, lip liner, and anything lip related. It’s a sickness and the only cure is more lipstick!
One of my most recent lip purchases is the new NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24) in the color Never Say Never. Before I get into the review, though, can I please draw attention to the fact that every time I wear this lip pencil I think of Justin Bieber? I may be 26 years old but let me tell you, I may have a touch of “Bieber Fever” since purchasing this product because now I can’t get his song “Boyfriend” out of my mind.
Either way, it’s obvious that the people over at NARS love them some J-Beebs.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I am a huge fan of the NARS Velvet Matte lip pencils because they are a great mix between a lipliner and a lipstick and it doesn’t hurt that they come in a handy jumbo pencil form - great for tossing in your purse for touchups on the go! This color is described on the NARS website as being a “lilac rose” and I would agree with that description. I might be more inclined to call it “raspberry” but hey, to each their own, right? On my lips this pulls more magenta but at the end of the day it’s still a cool toned pink which will look great on a variety of skin tones.
As far as wear is concerned, because this product is part lipliner and part matte lipstick (my definition, not NARS’) I have noticed that I get considerably more wear than expected - about 4 hours between touchups. The consistency of this product is smooth, slightly creamy, and easy to apply. It’s not drying at all and actually leaves my lips feeling moisturized which is a nice change of pace for a matte lip product because I find most of those to be slightly drying.
Overall I’d give this product an A+! Never Say Never was released with the NARS Summer 2012 collection and can be purchased on the NARS website or wherever NARS products are sold.
