Let me start off by saying that I feel completely out of the loop. The other day while tweeting with a few fellow bloggers, I was told about Pixiwoo. I have heard the name before, but never checked them out. They're only one of the most popular beauty bloggers on the web and have an extremely successful YouTube Channel! I felt so stupid when I asked someone to send me their link...they couldn't believe I never checked them out before! If you are like me and never heard of them or seen any of their work...head over to their website and channel...I assure you that you won't regret it!
What I have also discovered while watching Pixiwoo's videos, were Real Techniques brushes... the cosmetic brush line from Pixiwoo's very own Samantha Chapman. I have heard other bloggers talk about these brushes, but it was PW's vidoes that really pushed me to give them a try. I ended up purchasing the Real Techniques: Your Eyes/Enhanced Starter Kit.
Real Techniques "combine high-tech materials with innovative design to make creating a pixel-perfect look easier than ever." They use Talkon Bristles (which I've also never heard of) in which the hairs are super soft, synthetic and 100% cruelty free! Check out more about the brushes here.
My thoughts:
Most of you know that I am a hardcore, Sigma Beauty fan. Their brushes are almost all I use, except for a few Mac and MakeUp Geek ones here and there, but the majority is Sigma. I was very reluctant to try the RT brushes, only because I am so set in my ways; however when I saw how reasonable the prices were, I was convinced! The starter kit was only $18.00!! I believe you can find Real Techniques in stores (Ulta....I THINK) but because I am addicted to online shopping, I just purchased directly from their website. The shipping was SUPER FAST, which made me soo happy because I needed something to talk about for today's blog :P
The Starter Set came with 5 Brushes: a Base Shadow Brush, a Deluxe Crease Brush, an Accent Brush, a Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush and a Brow Brush.
The Base Shadow Brush reminds me of the Mac 217 Brush a little bit. This is a stiff dome shaped brush that is thinner than the Mac 217, but has a similar shape. It is used to apply a smooth flawless foundation of color.
The Deluxe Crease Brush has to be my FAVORITE!!! It is a round, domed, oversized brush that is used for contouring. I honestly think that I am going to use this brush to smooth concealer under my eyes because I just feel it is perfectly shaped for that!
The Accent Brush is a very tiny brush that is designed for precision, detailing, highlighting and smudging. I have my Sigma E30 Pencil Brush, which is great for smudging, but when I want it to be a bit more subtle, this is a great alternative!
The Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush is probably my least favorite of the collection, only because I have never used a brush shaped quite like this. I know that I am not going to use this as an eyeliner brush because I think it is made to thick for that. Because it is tapered cut, I feel like I may use it as more of a crease definer if I want to make it look a little cleaner.
The Brow Brush is a thin angled brush. I was hoping it was going to be a little thinner, only because I wanted to use it for something else rather than a brow brush. I think now I will use it for it's intended purpose...my brows!
All in all, I love this set! I was a bit concerned when I held them in my hands. They are extremely lightweight and I was afraid that the quality was going to be poor. After working with them a bit, they are truly quality brushes and the lightweight and size is fantastic for travel! I had a feeling these brushes were going to be fine due to the fact that I don't believe the lovely Sam Chapman would steer us wrong!
My #1 brushes are still Sigma (I am just being honest...thats what these reviews are for right???). But these brushes are wonderful and I am thrilled that I have them! After all, I after I opened this set, I already logged on and ordered the Stippling and Blush Brushes!

DeleteDo you think their quality compares to sigma? Im on the lookout for a good brush set and i was thinking of getting this and the core collection as apposed to the coastal scents 22 piece brush set. Sigma is way too expensive for me! [You can reply here - emerald.splash.attack@gmail.com]
